Here you see a before of the train car with the metal roof and deck removed. You can see from the lines in the photo on the left that the old roof had caused sagging in the rafters.

Two new sisters were put in place at the far left end and the new metal roof installed is shown on the right side.

If you take notice of the notches in rafters, the original 2×4” stringers are 37’ long.

The deck used custom 1 x 10-12”s running the length of the railcar.

“Enjoyed working with ASC Building Products.”

– John McDonnell, NNRY – Ely, NV

One day, the Northern Nevada Railway noticed that railcar #1023 needed a new roof. The old roof had begun to sag and was creating structural issues, so it had to go. NNRY knew they wanted a roof that would be both durable and dependable for years to come. After a short online search, the solution found was metal roofing by ASC Building Products!

John McDonnell reached out to ASC Building Products through the Ask ASC webform. After making contact and discussing the needs with Technical Services rep, Jeff Haddock; a decision was made. The new metal roof was going to be Skyline Roofing in the 26ga color, Rustic Red. With the aid of ASC Building Products’ online Distributor Search, John was able to identify a local distributor and place the order. The order was placed with Bath Lumber of Ely, NV.
